Person nabbed after nearly four decades in attempt-to-murder case
TNN | Mar 9, 2019, 04:08 ISTMangaluru: Avil D’Souza, 56, who hails from Padpu Adam Kudru near Jappinamogaru and currently stays in Kumpala near Thokkottu, was arrested after nearly four decades in an attempt-to-murder case.
A senior Mangaluru City police official said that during the 1980s, there was rampant manufacturing of illicit liquor in Adam Kudru and adjoining places. This used to hit the business of licensed liquor manufacturers in the district and to curb this menace, they would conduct raids on these places. In one such raid in 1980, Avil had allegedly assaulted Ganesh Shetty. A case was booked against him at Mangaluru Rural police station.
Soon after the case was registered, Avil fled to a Gulf country for work and had been absconding ever since. He did not attend any court proceedings and a warrant had been issued against him.
Anti-Rowdy Squad personnel, under the supervision of Mangaluru South sub-division ACP Rama Rao, arrested Avil on Thursday. After quitting work abroad, Avil had settled down with his family in Kumpala. He has been sent to judicial custody.
So far, South sub-division police have arrested five persons who have been absconding for more than two decades without attending court proceedings.
