Commuting may ease out with three new road projects in Lucknow

Picture used for representational purpose onlyLUCKNOW: Commuters in and around Lucknow can now look forward to some easy travel as three road projects worth 4,226 crore were inaugurated here on Thursday.
The opening of 15km (first phase) of the 8-lane outer ring road will ensure congestion-free travel between Lucknow and Sitapur and ease jams in Khurramnagar, Polytechnic Crossing, Munshipulia, Tedhipulia and Jankipuram extension.
With the opening of the 5.8km six-lane embankment road over Kukrail drain will now reduce the travel time from 45 minutes to 15 minutes between Shaktinagar and Gomtinagar.
The inauguration of four-lane 125km National Highway-56 has reduced road journey from Lucknow to Varanasi from six to four hours. According to NHAI officials around 10,000 vehicles ply on this route daily. Untill now, the stretch remained congested due to heavy vehicular rush, local markets and railway crossings.
The projects were inaugurated by Union home minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh.
The minister also laid the foundation of eight projects worth Rs 13,500 crore for the city. Among them is a new sewage treatment plant (STP) that will come up at Bharwara. It will have a capacity of filtering 39 million litres per day (MLD). At present, the Bharwara treatment plant has the capacity of filtering 56 MLD.
The foundation stones for other projects like Lucknow-Kanpur expressway, escalators at Aishbagh, Charbagh, Lucknow Junction and city rail station, flyover at Tedhipulia and 100 additonal beds in KGMU trauma centre were also laid.
