HYDERABAD: Citing security issues, Telangana intelligence sleuths have requested Metro authorities to block passengers’ view of State Intelligence office at Lakdikapul from the station. Work to block the line of vision of passengers has started.
The station, an elevated three-tier structure, gives an opportunity for passengers to see the intelligence office, where its chief and other officials are stationed. The intelligence officials have written a letter to the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) to block the line of vision of passengers. The HMR officials, after receiving the request, started the work to block view by erecting panel boards at the station, stairs and escalator, which is along the compound wall of the intelligence office.
Sources in Telangana police said since the office specifically houses anti-terror intelligence wing, Counter Intelligence Cell (CI Cell) and the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), they fear miscreants might keep tabs on their movements. CI Cell sleuths claim to do a pan-India job and had even busted several terror modules, including those related to Islamic State (IS).
Earlier as well, Intelligence sleuths had red-flagged the GHMC’s proposal to put up a foot-over-bridge (FOB) near the Intelligence office much before the Metro project was thought about. On their request, the FOB proposal was then scrapped.
“We cannot take chances as the office of the DGP and Intelligence will face security threat. A proposal was sent to block the view and works are being taken up,’’ sources in Telangana police told TOI. When contacted, HMR officials, without disclosing the reasons cited by Telangana police in their letter, confirmed the action was being taken due to security reasons. A nearly 7-feet panel of board sheets were being put in place on platforms and along the staircase to block the passengers’ view into the office.
Though some persons attempted suicide at Ameerpet and other stations, no measures were taken to block the open railing or at other places of the stations.
