Major demolition works can start at Allianz Stadium, court rules

Heavy demolition can start at Allianz Stadium immediately after a Sydney court lifted an order that prevented major works before 5pm on Friday.

The NSW Land and Environment Court lifted a temporary injunction preventing the Moore Park stadium's walls and roof from being dismantled on Friday morning.

Justice Nicola Pain also dismissed a bid from a community group fighting the demolition for the ban on heavy demolition to be extended until Monday at 5pm.

The judge's ruling means the NSW government could send bulldozers in to start hard demolition - including removing hinges that hold down the roof - on Friday and on Saturday.

So-called soft demolition works have already started. Aerial footage showed machinery carrying out demolition works at the stadium on Thursday.

But the ban on major demolition was in place while Local Democracy Matters and Waverley Council launched a last-ditch bid to stop the stadium being razed before the state election on March 23.
