Nagpur: Innovative ideas found their way on the canvas as students depicted various hues of life at the annual exhibition organized by Government College of Art and Design on its Laxmi Nagar campus.
Portraits of human faces, flowers and birds were beautifully depicted by the students. Painting of a face-wash bottle caught the attention of visitors.
Speaking after inaugurating the exhibition, deputy commissioner of police (crime branch) Nilesh Bharne lauded students for taking to creative fields and said it was heart-warming that the parents too are supportive of them as the field of art and design has a vast scope. Even multinational companies prefer students of art colleges during campus placements in view of their artistic ability.
Ulhas Debadwar, chief engineer of public works department who was the chief guest, termed the exhibition as excellent. Even the college campus is very creative. The paintings speak about the talent the students of the college have. They will be the artists to reckon with in the near future, he added.
Debadwar expressed the hope that the students will beautify the city with their creativity. “Roads, walls and buildings of the city can be beautified with the help of these young artists,” he added.
University representative of the college Akshay More told TOI there is a lot of enthusiasm and craze among students who eagerly wait for the annual event. The college conducts painting and drawing competitions prior to the exhibition and the best works are given cash prizes and awards.
Paintings of the first to final year students were put on display. From this year, the college has begun to give gold, silver and bronze medals to the best three campaigns of the year.
Dean of the college Vinod Mankar, general secretary Sachin Kumbhare, university representative Komal Nitore, Abdul Gaffar and Kishor Ingle were present.
