DHARWAD: Citizens and members of various organizations felicitated slain CRPF jawan H Guru’s wife Kalavathi, father Honnaiah and mother Chikkatayamma at a function organized by Uttara Karnataka Sainik Kalyana Samiti (UKSKS) at Kala Bhavan here on Thursday.
UKSKS president Chandrashekhar Aminagad said it is the duty of every Indian to stand with the family of soldiers when they are in grief. “This is the minimum that citizens can do for the families of braves who leave everything to protect the nation, he said. The staff of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) handed over a cheque for Rs. 1.1 lakh. Several other organizations and individuals also contributed.
Expressing gratitude to the people of North Karnataka for showing affection to her family, Kalavathi said she was proud of her husband and added that the sacrifice of hundreds of defence personnel should not go in vain.
“The government should avenge the assault by terrorists who are protected and promoted by Pakistan’s Army and ISI by being more aggressive. There should be a multi-pronged attack on terrorists and the Pakistan military which should have a long-term impact,” she said.
UKSKS secretary Krishna Joshi, K H Nayak and others also spoke.
Will fulfil husband’s wish, says Kalavathi
My husband wanted me to be well-educated and highly qualified. I will fulfil his wishes and will continue my education, said Kalavathi. She told TOI that she was pursuing MA in political science from Mysuru University through correspondence and intended to take up B Ed later. “I would like to take up a teaching job so that I can help a large number of students over the years,” she said.
To a question, she said she was being supported fully by her in-laws and other members of the family. Pointing at her mother-in-law who was sitting next to her, Kalavathi said her mother-in-law was her father’s sister and that the entire family was supporting her. “There are no differences of any kind within the family. There were some disturbing reports which were creations of the media,” Kalavathi said.
