Collector N. Satyanarayana inaugurated Technology Empowerment Girls (TeG), a digital library, at District Central Library here on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Friday.

The initiative is aimed at bridging the gender technology gap and empowering women and girls to create innovative solutions that would help them improve quality of their lives and in turn their communities.

The TeG is an initiative of NASSCOM Foundation, supported by the Information Technology Department of Government of Telangana. Implemented by Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), TeG is hosted by Directorate of Public Libraries of School Education.

Under the programme, the DEF would build digital capacities of 500 girls and women across Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar and Vikarabad districts and broaden their livelihood opportunities.

This would be achieved through an innovative 42-hour digital literacy course that would train women and girls in the know-how of ICT, the use of technology for information access and digital tools for information dissemination, while the course would also teach them how to leverage technology for education and livelihood.

Integrated Child W elfare Officer M. Radhamma, Additional DRDO Sudheer, DBCWO Jhansi, Reliance Foundation project officer Rajesh, deputy manager (communications) at Digital Empowerment Foundation Udita Chaturvedi, and others participated in the event.
