Stocks in the news: Sun Pharma\, Tata Motors\, Lupin\, L&T Finance and Wipro

NEW DELHI: Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange were trading 44 points, or 0.40 per cent, lower at 11,043.50, indicating a negative start for the Nifty50. Here are a few stocks, which may buzz the most in today’s trade:

Sun Pharma: A whistleblower has alleged that Sun Pharma used its subsidiary Aditya Medisales to give gifts — including personalised websites and online promotion — to doctors in violation of pharma industry guidelines.

Tata Motors: The auto major said its struggling British arm Jaguar Land Rover has posted a 4.1 per cent decline in its global sales to 38,288 units in February.

L&T Finance: The company announced early closure of its NCD issue, following a 4.5 times oversubscription, raising a little over Rs 2,228 crore.

Wipro:
According to Bloomberg Quint, Azim Premji may sell up to 0.44 per cent stake in the IT firm, owned through his philanthropic trust.

Lupin: The drug maker received nod from the USFDA to market its generic Atorvastatin Calcium tablets, used for lowering cholesterol, in the US market.

Gitanjali Gems: An appellate tribunal stayed an order allowing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to attach the assets of fugitive jeweller Mehul Choksi’s Gitanjali Gems after lender ICICI Bank argued that this was preventing the bankruptcy process from going ahead.

Reliance Industries: The company has leased 4,000 acres of land from Navi Mumbai SEZ (NMSEZ) for an initial payment of Rs 2,180 crore to develop a global economic hub.

Jet Airways: The airline is operating about 70 planes as of now and the rest of them are grounded due to various reasons, including routine maintenance checks,

Bharti Airtel: Singapore’s GIC Pvt Ltd will invest Rs 5,000 crore to buy around 4 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel by subscribing to the telco’s Rs 25,000-cr rights issue. That’s by way of a partial renunciation of shares in favour of GIC by promoter group Bharti Telecom.

United Breweries Holdings: British spirits maker Diageo, the majority owner of United Spirits, has sought first access to and restoration of attached shares of Vijay Mallya in United Breweries Holdings and Watson to recover dues from its former joint venture partner.

ICRA, CRISIL: In a meeting with top credit rating officials, RBI governor Shaktikanta Das and the deputy governors voiced concern over rating agencies’ inability to assess risk and take timely action, as in the case of IL&FS.

Marksans Pharma: The drug firm said it has received eight observations from the US health regulator after the inspection of its Goa facility.

Suprajit Engineering: Markets regulator Sebi has exempted a private family trust related to the promoter group of Suprajit Engineering from the obligation of making an open offer following its proposed acquisition of 38 per cent stake in the firm.

Jindal Stainless: Odisha government has approved a proposal of Jindal Stainless for setting up a private industrial estate near Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district.

ONGC: State-owned ONGC signed a contract for the prolific Chinnewala Tibba gas field in Rajasthan, which it had discovered around 15 years ago but was taken away and auctioned by the government.

FMCG, pharma cos: In a huge relief for FMCG, food, retail chains and pharma companies, the government has clarified that promotional schemes such as buy one get one free (BOGO) and additional quantity for same price will be eligible for input tax credit.

Reliance Capital: The company plans to reduce debt by monetising stake in mutual fund, general insurance and media assets. The company expects to raise Rs 5,000 crore by selling stake in the mutual fund company.

Analyst calls

• Deutsche Bank has a buy rating on ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company with a target price of Rs 440. The growth momentum for ICICI Prudential is turning around and its attempts to diversify its product and channel mix should enable it to post more steady growth, the bank said.

• HSBC has maintained hold rating on InterGlobe Aviation with a target price of Rs 1,050. While demand remains highly price sensitive, successful network restructuring will be key to yield and profitability, said HSBC.

• CLSA has maintained buy rating on Infosys with a target price of Rs 930 following a meeting with the company’s COO UB Pravin Rao. Infosys is enjoying a better-than-expected demand environment where it is gaining share, driving growth improvement, said CLSA.
