The facility has been established at J7 Velachery police station

Eight months after it was inaugurated, the new building of J7 Velachery Police Station on Velachery Main Road has received an additional feature — a badminton court.

This facility was inaugurated by A.K. Viswanathan, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, on February 22.

On the same day, a volleyball court was inaugurated at the Police Boys Club on Marudha Pandiyar Salai in TNHB Colony, Velachery.

E. Velu, a former Inspector of Police at J7 Velachery Police Station, who is now posted with Central Crime Branch, is credited with creating this facility.

“Our Commissioner advised us to create a facility that would help the police personnel relax. The facility was established at a cost of ₹13 lakh. The funds were sponsored by a few corporates and an educational institution,” says Velu. Besides police personnel and their families, retired police personnel can use the court.
