While tackling the steep, winding trails visitors between fishing villages visitors wearing flip-flops, pumps and sandals or wrong shoes might get into trouble.
Ill-equipped tourists create problem for mountain rescue team as they are not dressed up well to clamber up the narrow, challenging footpaths.
Visitors will be re-educated through an information campaign before the fines will be introduced, it will be based on the inconvenience caused and the expense incurred while rescuing hikers. This will range between €50-€2,500.
Patrizio Scarpellini, the head of the Cinque Terre national park said the problem is that people coming here think they are at the seaside, but the paths above the villages are like mountain trails.
