NAGERCOIL
The DMK-led alliance had been formed in Tamil Nadu to save the State from the “fascist force and its slaves”, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.S. Alagiri said.
Addressing a meeting held in Nagercoil on Thursday to review preparations for Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s election rally to be organised at Kanniyakumari on March 13, Mr. Alagiri said the “principled and secular electoral alliance”, led by the DMK, had been formed to take on the “fascist alliance” of the BJP and its “arm-twisted slaves” like the AIADMK and the PMK.
It was disgusting to see leaders of the AIADMK and the PMK sharing the dais with Mr. Modi after criticising the Centre for not releasing adequate funds for cyclone relief, he said.
While the Congress, Left parties, MDMK, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and others had come under one umbrella for taking on the “fascist forces”, those who were in the opposite camp had joined hands for “some other benefits”, he said.
He came down heavily on the election rally addressed by Mr. Modi in Chennai on Wednesday, wherein the Prime Minister had charged that the Congress had humiliated its former president K. Kamaraj.
“It was the Congress that elevated Kamaraj as a Member of Parliament and the president of All India Congress Committee. People like Mr. Modi cannot understand the friendly relationship prevailed among Kamaraj, Gandhiji and Rajaji,” Mr. Alagiri said.
He charged that the BJP, while preaching ‘One nation, one culture’ ideology, was dividing people on religious lines. “It only shows the BJP’s thirst for power by dividing people. The people of the country are fully aware of BJP’s evil designs and crush this attempt,” Mr. Alagiri noted.
Former TNCC presidents Su. Thirunavukkarasar and other senior leaders participated in the meeting.
