NEW DELHI: Three men have been arrested for trying to extort a businessman. The trio went to the businessman’s Vijay Vihar office to threaten him. This has come almost a month after the same man was threatened by jailed gangster Rahul Kala via a WhatsApp video call from Tihar Jail.
DCP (Rohini) S D Mishra said the three men identified as Akshay, Rahul and Vikram have been booked for extortion and criminal intimidation.
The victim was receiving threatening calls from unknown numbers since January. He tried to ignore them at first and got busy with a family wedding. But on January 26, close to 15 people entered his office and held him captive. The men had made the victim attend a video call from Kala, who is a close associate of gangster Neeraj Bawana.
Kala told him to arrange for Rs 50 lakh within 24 hours. Kala also sent him a photo where he was standing next to Bawana. Kala said his men would return to his office the next evening to collect the money; if he didn’t pay, then they will kill him and his family.
The businessman went to the police and an FIR was lodged on January 29.
TOI was the first to report about threats being made by a video call from inside Tihar, which has state-of-the-art jammers.
