JAIPUR: Two migrant labourers were killed after they were tossed several feet into the air and thrown away on Tonk Road by a speeding power bike driven by two engineering students at Tonk Road in Sanganer late on Wednesday night.

At 10.30 pm, Amit Chand (38), a native of Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh, and Ratnesh Kumar (39), a resident of Patna in Bihar, were crossing the road opposite to India Gate after winding up their shifts at a Sitrapura located factory when two youths on the power bike speeding at 120km hit them. Ratnesh crashed on a road divider, while Amit’ spine was crushed in the accident.

The labourers were rushed to the hospital where they later succumbed to multiple injuries. The biker, identified as Abhay Joshi (23) sustained fracture and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His friend Nitin (22) who was riding pillion on Abhay’s expensive bike was discharged on Thursday afternoon.

“All four of them were taken to the hospital where Amit Chand and Ratnesh Kumar died during the treatment,” said SHO Sanganer, Lakhan Singh Khatana.

The police have found that Abhay and Niting are students of a Sitapura located private engineering college. They had left their rented accommodation late night to get dinner, but the ride way back to the hostel turned into a daredevil speeding stunt.

The Accident police station (East) is currently investigating the fatal mishap. The investigators suspect the duo may have consumed some alcohol because lot of people on Tonk Road had asked them to slow down.

“We could not conduct breathalyzer test on Abhay and Nitin as they were also injured in the accident. But they will be interrogated about the matter,” said an official.

The locals who had alerted the local police about the accident told officials of the response team that several people had spotted the two youths speeding through the Tonk Road. “Barely a few minutes before the accident at least two motorists had asked Abhay near Bambala crossing to drive responsibly, but in vain,” an official said. The police said that Abhay is a native of Deoli in Tonk district. Preliminary reports indicate that the bikers were driving without helmets.

“The accident was very severe, the victims sustained multiple head injuries and died later on,” an official said. The police said that both labourers worked on a stitching desk of a clothing factory located in Sitapura. “Both of them lived at a rented room near Bambala Flyover,” the officials said.
