The security forces gunned down a militant on Thursday morning after an encounter broke out in Handwara area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site after a brief encounter broke out in Handwara's Kralgund area.

Internet services have been snapped in Handwara and Kupwara.

A search operation was still underway as of the last update.
