AMBALA: A 23-year-old migrant woman identified as Monu jumped off from the second floor of a house where she worked as a caretaker on Wednesday.
The woman is a resident Biswanath Chariali in Assam. She has been admitted to Ambala Cantonment Civil Hospital for treatment.
Monu said: “I used to work in Gurugram with my cousin brothers Ratul and Suraj and some days ago, I came in contact with a woman named Seema in Gurugram, who is also a resident of Assam. She promised me to provide work in Ambala stating that I will earn more income. She told me that I will have to work as a caretaker at a house of an old-aged couple. On Tuesday, Seema dropped me at the house in Regiment Bazaar area. She took money from a person in the house and fled.”
“I was told that an old-aged couple lived in the house, but on reaching I came to know that there was only an old man living in the house. When I questioned him about his wife, he locked me in the house and also sexually harassed me. I, somehow, managed to escape from there,” she said.
Investigation officer sub-inspector Ajit Singh said: “The woman jumped from the second floor of the house and received two blunt injuries and suspected fracture on her left foot. The report of the X-ray is awaited. On the complaint of the woman, a case against the accused Babu Pehalwan, aged between 65-70 years, and Seema has been registered. After the X-ray report, if the foot of the woman is fractured, relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) will be added to the case.”
The district police have registered a case under sections 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), and 354-A (sexual harassment and punishment for same) of the IPC.
As per information, Monu was rescued by a driver, Happy, of Geeta Gopal Sanstha, who took her to the Ambala Cantonment hospital for treatment.
