A reading group exclusively for women

Thiruvananthapuram: After the success of programmes, which were organized to promote reading habit among children, the State Central Library authorities have come up with a novel initiative for women.
According to library sources, the target group is homemakers. The programme titled ‘Pennvayanakoottu’ (women’s reading group) will be launched to coincide with Women’s Day on Friday.
The library will organize regular get-togethers for women members of the library to discuss about books and their favourite authors. It will also serve as a platform for the members to interact with noted authors and present their literary skills.
It is proposed to conduct the discussions at the library auditorium from noon till evening hours. “Considering the demand from women library members to host events for them, we decided to launch the programme,” said state librarian P K Shobhana.
“The objective of the programme is to promote reading habit among women. The target group are homemakers. The events will be planned in few weeks,” added Shobhana.
Also, a seminar on ‘Sabarimala and women’ will be held at the library auditorium at 10.30am on Friday. A K Jayasree, J Devika, P K Sajeev and Nandiath Gopalakrishnan will be the panellists for the seminar.
