FALL RIVER — Interested in playing semi-pro football for a new, Fall River-based team? And if you're not a player, are you still interested in helping in some capacity, including sponsorship, with the proposed Troy City Titans?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, then block off 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Friday (March 8) and plan to be at the Mesa 21 restaurant, 21 Lindsey St. On the second floor of that facility you will find a recruitment meeting for the Titans, who plan to compete in the New England Football League, starting this summer.

The Titans are not yet listed on the NEFL's website. Moniz, in a text, wrote that the Titans were voted into the league last week.

"We are actively seeking players, sponsors," said Steve Moniz of New Bedford, one of the driving forces behind this forming franchise. One of the founders and first president of the Fall River Falcons Pop Warner Football program, Moniz is already associated with the Massachusetts Pirates, the Worcester-based team in the National Arena League. That's indoor football. The NEFL is outdoors.

Moniz said the Titans may call Mac Aldrich Field at Durfee High School their home, but that is tentative because of the construction and renovation program going on at Durfee. He said if Durfee is not available, the Titans could seek to play at Diman Regional, at Bishop Connolly or at the turf field at Atlantis Charter.

These and other Titans-related topics will be discussed, Moniz said, at Friday's meeting. He said Mesa 21 has already jumped aboard the wagon by offering its second floor for meetings.

Titans coaches and staff are slated to be at the meeting.

Anthony Comer, the former Brockton High star tailback and a gym owner/personal trainer in Fall River, is in place as head coach, Moniz said.

"We're building a franchise," Moniz said.
