Trichy: Elderly man held for sexually assaulting minor girl

Illustration for representational purposeTRICHY: A 75-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a minor girl for the past three years.
All women police station (AWPS) police in Lalgudi arrested Kailasam from Pikshandarkovil street in Trichy for indulging in repeated sexual assault on the 14-year-old girl.
The crime came to light on Tuesday after the girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the AWPS.
According to her complaint, the woman was was working as a domestic help in Kailasam’s house for several years. After she quit her job, Kailasam asked her to send her daughter for work. Since then he has been sexually assaulting the girl.
As the girl was unaware of the abuse she was going through, she did not report the matter to her mother. Recently, the girl dropped out from school and her mother put her in a government reception home. During the counselling by the officers, the girl revealed her ordeal.
Her mother was apprised of the matter following which she preferred to complain against Kailasam.
Acting on the complaint, AWPS police caught Kailasam and inquired with him before slapping him with a case under Section 5 (m- penetrative sexual assault more than once)(l – penetrative sexual assault on a child below twelve years) and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The girl was admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) for medical check-up on Thursday.
