Nigerian footballer held for visa forgery

KOLKATA: A 31-year-old Nigerian footballer who had represented Tollygunge Agragami last year was arrested on Wednesday for overstaying in India with a fake visa and using it to leave the country.

Cops said the SCO (Security Control Organisation) received information that Daniel Bidemiayen, popularly known as Daniel Bidemi, had forged the passport and visa sometime in June 2015. Based on the information, SCO officers raided the Madurdaha apartment which he had been renting.


Bidemi is a well-known Nigerian footballer in the Kolkata football circle. A versatile footballer who plays in different positions, he played for Mohun Bagan in 2016 besides representing numerous Calcutta Football League clubs such as Chirag United SC, Mohammedan Sporting, Calcutta Port Trust, Bhowanipore FC, Tollygunge Agragami and Police AC since his arrival in India in 2008.


Besides playing in Kolkata, Bedemi has also played the I-League for Shillong Lajong FC and Sporting Clube de.
