Cop caught taking bribe in Ferozepur

FEROZEPUR: The Vigilance Bureau (VB), Ferozepur, arrested a police official while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on Wednesday.
Hargobind Singh, SSP, Vigilance Bureau, Ferozepur, said sub-inspector Rajwant Singh was deputed with the state special operation cell of counter intelligence wing at Fazilka.

The SI had allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from Gurlal Singh of Moga to return his licensed pistol and cartridges.


Gurlal was booked in a case under NDPS Act. During the search of his house, SI Rajwant, who was part of with the raiding team, reportedly took the pistol along with one magazine and five live cartridges. "On coming out on bail, I approached the cop to return my pistol and cartridges. But he demanded Rs 3 lakh and the deal was struck at Rs 2 lakh," alleged Gurlal. He then approached the VB and a trap was laid. Rajwant was arrested while accepting Rs 1 lakh as first installment.


During search of cop's residence, the VB team found the weapon, magazine and cartridges belonging to Gurlal that he had kept illegally.


Besides, the VB also found 910g poppy husk from his house and a case under NDPS Act and Arms Act were registered at Fazilka.
