The Telangana High Court on Thursday stayed contempt proceedings against former Speaker of Telangana S. Madhusudhana Chary relating to a case of expulsion of two former Congress legislators from Assembly.
The former Speaker is the sixth person to secure the stay order in the case. Already, Telangana Legislature Secretary V. Narasimhacharyulu and Law Secretary V. Niranjan Rao, DGP M. Mahender Reddy and SPs of Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts A.V. Ranganath and Rema Rajeshwari respectively filed petitions before the Division Bench and secured orders staying the contempt proceedings.
In 2018, a single judge passed an order staying expulsion of the then Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S.A. Sampath Kumar from the Assembly. As the order was not enforced, the two MLAs filed contempt plea following which the single judge initiated contempt proceedings against six contemnors.
