MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has upheld a 10 years' rigorous imprisonment sentence given to a man convicted of raping two sisters.
Justice A M Badar dismissed an appeal filed by a man who had challenged an order of May 2015 passed by additional sessions judge, Mumbai, in a 2012 case of rape, but acquitted him under a charge of obscenity.

The trial court had four years ago directed him to pay Rs 50,000 compensation to both rape survivors, sisters, both less than 16 years old at the time of the crime.

The prosecution had established its case that the perpetrator used to call the girls for work at his office to paste labels on compact disks and pay them small amounts. He initially raped and videographed the act on one sister and continued to molest her and threatened to publish the recording to rape the younger one, the prosecution said.

The defence lawyer said the acts were by consent and the prosecution has no proof that the girls were under 16. The HC held there was medical evidence to show both sisters were raped.
