New Acura Flagship Sedan Concept Coming To Pebble Beach

The Acura RLX is a comfortable and luxurious flagship sedan, but it hasn’t exactly set the sales chart on fire.

That could change in the future as Car and Driver is reporting the company will unveil a “slinky four-door flagship” at the Pebble Beach this summer. Little is known about the car at this point, but the publication says it will be a production-ready concept that closely echoes the stunning Precision concept which debuted at the 2016 North American International Auto Show.

The model will apparently go into production sometime in the future, but timing and specifications remain unclear. However, it’s believed the car will replace the RLX and adopt a new name.

A new flagship isn’t the only thing under development as Car and Driver is also reporting we can expect a new TLX and MDX. They are expected to be unveiled late this year or early next year. The publication was shown mockups of the models and they will apparently feature a number of styling cues from the RDX and Precision concept.

Acura is also said to be said to be considering a new ZDX. Originally introduced at 2009 New York Auto Show, the ZDX was Acura’s answer to the BMW X6. Unfortunately, consumers shrugged and US sales peaked at 3,259 units in 2010 before quickly falling to 775 units two years later. Given the dismal sales, production ended in 2013.

Crossovers have exploded in popularity since then and Audi, BMW and Mercedes have all introduced new crossover coupes. This seems to have sparked renewed interest in a sporty Acura crossover, but the model doesn’t appears to have been greenlight yet.
