  • It banned more than one trip to the store per day for 'safety reasons'
  • BWS said policy was introduced by rogue staff without permission from HQ
  • It said that the policy notice has been removed and is no longer in place

BWS has apologised to customers after a store brought in a one serve per day policy.

The store in Blacktown, western Sydney posted a notice informing customers that they could not make more than one trip to the store per day for 'safety reasons.'

The sign read: 'Due to recurring circumstances and concerns over safety we now have a strict "one serve policy". This means you will only be allowed to be served once per day.

'We understand how this might affect you and appreciate your understanding in this matter.'

Customers were enraged by the new policy.

One named Stephen called radio 2GB and said: 'I forgot to get a bottle of scotch for a birthday present and I said, "So you're not gonna sell me that bottle of scotch now?" and they said "that's right".'

BWS this afternoon said the policy was introduced by rogue staff at the store without the permission of head office.

The company said in a statement: 'The sign displayed in Blacktown was put up in error and has since been removed.

'While we do treat the responsible service of alcohol very seriously, we don't have a one service per day policy in our Sydney stores.

'Instead we deal with these matters on a case-by-case basis in line with industry leading responsible service of alcohol practices.

'Our team members will refuse service when they have reason to believe a customer is intoxicated or at risk of harm.'
