VIT debuts in QS world university rankings

Three subject areas make it to global top 550 ranks

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has set a record, with three of the subjects making it to the the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university rankings by subject 2019.

Three subject areas of VIT — Computer Science and Information Systems, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Chemistry were ranked within the top 550 of the world.

While the two engineering subject areas were ranked within the top 500 of the world, chemistry emerged in the top 550.

It may be noted that QS is an international ranking agency that takes ‘h index’ and citations of research publications as criteria for subject ranking, besides perception about the subject areas by academic and industry leaders.

Subject ranking indicates the strength of research output of a university in terms of both quality and quantity.

The management of VIT expects at least three more disciplines from the University to be ranked by QS in the upcoming days.

“Subjects in VIT are research oriented; they are on par with the global standards.

“The up-to-date curriculum and effective teaching-learning process enhance the knowledge of the students,” said Sekar Viswanathan, vice-president of VIT.
