New direction to BJP poll campaign with Dhar’s meeting

Finally PM Narendra Modi has launched the poll campaign from Dhar with addressing of a public meeting. The way he made scathing attacks on the opposition only shows he and his party will go all out to perform better in Lok Sabha and are not disappointed by the performance in assembly polls.

The public meeting in tribal-dominated Dhar in Malwa region assumes significance for the BJP as the party suffered a major blow in the region during state assembly elections last year and lost power to the Congress after 15 years.

In Malwa region, BJP lost as many as 28 seats while it had 56 in 2013 assembly elections. Congress’ tally rose from 9 in 2013 to 35 in 2018. In Dhar, Congress won almost all the assembly seats.

According to BJP leaders, the Prime Minister’s visit to Dhar has motivated party workers, not only in Malwa but in entire Madhya Pradesh. He came to MP at a time when the morale of every Indian is very high after the country’s befitting reply to Pakistan, said some party workers.

Mounting attack on Opposition, who has been demanding proof of IAF’s ‘pre-emptive air strikes’, PM Modi said the whole country feels that our soldiers did the right, the whole world has said that this was the way against terrorism, but some people in the country don’t think so.

…Cong’s enthusiasm doesn’t wane

However Modi’s visit has not unnerved Congress. After the formation of Congress government in MP, the enthusiasm of party workers and people in Rahul Gandhi’s gratitude meeting was worth mentioning.

Dhar Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh state in central India. This constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes. This constituency came into existence in 1967. It covers the entire Dhar district and part of Indore district.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls BJP had won as many as 27 seats out of the total 29 in Madhya Pradesh. However, in Lok-Sabha by-poll held for Ratlam-Jhabua seat in 2015 BJP lost to the Congress. Jhabua, the neighboring district of Dhar, in Malwa region is also a tribal dominated district.
