Congress turncoat and former Jamnagar (rural) MLA Raghavji Patel on Wednesday deposed before Gujarat High Court in connection with the ongoing trial in the election petition filed by BJP's Balvantsinh Rajput against the Rajya Sabha poll victory of Congress's Ahmed Patel.
During the deposition, Raghavji alleged that although the Congress party has its own constitution, but all the decisions are taken by the party president based on the suggestion of his political consultant Ahmed Patel. He also said the whip issued by the party to vote in favour of the Patel was kind of an intimidation.
He also claimed several party MLAs were not happy with selection of Patel's for Rajya Sabha elections. Raghavji too alleged that MLAs were threatened to vote in favour of Patel, or else face the consequences. He said Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil on the day of election had tried to snatch his ballot. He alleged that MLAs were threatened to vote in favour of Patel or face a suspension of six years.
