How to memorize fast what you studied?

One of the most amazing feats of our mind is the ability to accelerate the pace of performing everyday tasks when the time calls for it. Have you ever wondered how you take only about five minutes to get ready, have breakfast and settle everything when you are late for a bus or a train? Our speed depends on the orders of the mind and urgency of the task.
Remember that memory can be built just as you build muscles. Here are some of the tips that may help you memorize your studies faster:

1) Set-up Time Based Study Target

1

Start by talking to yourself in the morning and setting study targets with time limits for the day. End the day with another self-talk where you analyse the day’s accomplishments and your speed. Drill it into your head that quick learning is possible and you will achieve it.

2) Be creative, use maps, notes, charts, drawings, colouring

2

Remembering key words, that carry the gist of a topic and making mind maps and 3D notes help retain what you have learnt. Make it a point to study the difficult subjects first. Find ways to make the topic interesting and make use of colourful markings, margin notes, etc to help you recall better.

3) Take a break to refresh yourself

3

Visualise yourself achieving your goal to keep yourself motivated. Take a break every 40 minutes to avoid day-dreaming and boredom.

4) Recite aloud to concentrate

4

Loud reading also keeps your mind from going off-track. Keep recalling what you have just learnt. This helps you keep your brain alert and ensures that it is performing at an optimum level.

5) Use your imagination to make study interesting

5

Form mental images while reading or associate words with pictures. This way, what you learn will be enhanced with your imagination while being stored in your memory. This method is interesting and helps you associate the rather mundane subject matter with interesting and familiar mental projections. For example, if you want to remember the capital of Bulgaria, which is Sofia, visualise a bull sitting on a sofa. Here, we are associating a bull with a sofa. So Bulgaria will remind you of the bull which in turn will remind you of the sofa, and consequently help you remember that the capital of the country is Sofia.

6) Close your eyes and recall what you studied

6

When you wish to recall what you have learnt, close your eyes, think of a medium-size board and visualise the subject matter on it. This method can be used to remember maps, spellings, formulae, diagrams, etc. This is known as photographic memory.
