25,000 assessees have not filed I-T returns
TNN | Mar 7, 2019, 11:07 ISTJALANDHAR: Even as around 53,000 new income-tax assessees have been added this year under the jurisdiction of I-T principal commissioner-I, Jalandhar, the department has got 25,000 cases in which assessees have not filed returns despite making huge investments in the past four years.
I-T principal commissioner Dr Simi Gupta said around 25,000 cases under investigation in which assessees had made huge investments in properties and bank deposits but had failed to file returns even after the department has issued notices. “They should file their returns and pay their taxes to avoid further action,” she said during an interaction with the mediapersons here.
The jurisdiction of income tax-1 Jalandhar includes parts of Jalandhar city, Hoshiarpur and Nawanshahr districts.
She revealed that around Rs 40 crore of unaccounted income was unearthed after surveys on 24 business groups.
