COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu police on Thursday beefed up security on the TN-Kerala border and advised all hospitals in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris to contact them if they notice any patients with bullet injuries.

West Zone IG K Periaiah issued the advisory after Maoist activist CP Jaleel was shot dead by Thunder Bolt police in Wayanad district of neighbouring Kerala and the escape of other Maoists, including one who suffered bullet injuries.

Four Maoists went to a resort near Wayanad on Wednesday night and demanded food. The Thunder Bolt police got a tip off and rushed to the spot. The Maoists also noticed the police movements and opened fire.

The police retaliated, and one of the Maoists was shot dead and another one suffered injuries. The Maoist abandoned the dead body and the three Maoists managed to escape into the reserve forest.

"All the tribal hamlets were alerted and the tribes are advised to inform to the police if they notice any strangers in the reserve forest. We have deployed more armed reserve police on the border checkposts," said Periaiah.
