NEW BEDFORD - Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts and Title Sponsor, Bristol County Savings Bank, announce that five schools from the Fall River area – Atlantis Charter High School, Bishop Connolly High School (2 Teams), B.M.C. Durfee High School (5 Teams), Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School (8 Teams) and Westport High School (2 Teams) - will participate in the sixth annual Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge to take place on the campus of UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, March 12. The Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge is a business strategy competition in which high school sophomores, juniors and seniors compete against other schools in teams using an online, interactive business simulation game which provides students with essential business knowledge. Each of the schools will compete against an estimated 200 students from 12 other schools.

During the event, the students will compete for scholarships while gaining insight into the world of business, at no cost to the students or their high schools. In addition to developing budgets and interpreting financial reports, students can expect to increase their knowledge of pricing, production, capital investment, R&D, marketing and charitable giving.

To prepare for the competition, students have been practicing the simulation and learning key business concepts that they will need to use during the competition. The day of the event, participants will attend breakout sessions in which business professionals will reinforce concepts and offer professional advice. Teams will then engage in two rounds of competition as each team makes decisions under the guidance of a volunteer business mentor. The top ranking teams will win scholarships, presented by their corporate sponsors, to a post-secondary educational institution that they choose to attend.
