Goa Forward Party president and Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai Thursday expressed suspicion that the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) was having an internal tie-up with Congress, which is sparing the opposition party an attack by the oldest regional party in the state.

Addressing the audience at a function of laying of foundation stone for construction of Banastari market complex under the tribal welfare department at Banastari, Sardesai came down heavily on his alliance partner MGP.

“Congress has been targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party, as it is their national enemy. But here they only target GFP and are not uttering a word against MGP. So I strongly feel that MGP has an internal tie-up with Congress,” he said.

The GFP chief said that the coalition government was formed under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar because he would give a certain direction to Goa. “But when we claim that all alliance partners are together, how can one of them contest the by-elections against BJP,” he questioned referring to the MGP’s decision to contest the Shiroda and Mandrem by-elections.

“Many a time, it has happened that during elections MGP and BJP have fought giving a winning edge to Congress,” Sardesai pointed out. He also raised a question saying that if that happens in two Assembly constituencies then what will happen?

Will the government be stable? If the government is unstable, where will MGP go?

Speaking on the occasion, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho appealed to the people to reelect both the BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha elections.

Tribal Welfare Minister Govind Gaude said that the estimated cost of the Banastari market complex project is Rs 17.40 crore and it will be completed in the next two years. “It was a long-pending demand of the people, so I have taken up the project under the tribal welfare department,” he said.

Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) chairman Deepak Pauskar, chairman of Goa State Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Durgadas Gaude, sarpanch of Bhoma- Adcona village panchayat Sunil Jalmi and others were present on the occasion.
