Clever dentists across Australia are now offering Botox and lip fillers as a way to get more patients heading in for their teeth checkups.
With Australians spending more than $1billion on cosmetic procedures over the past year, dentists are jumping on board the rising trend by launching new services including lip fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.
Dr Kristina Cain, who works in Brisbane and Melbourne, said it is a great idea for both healthcare experts and patients as dentists have strict training in facial aesthetics and structure.
'It's wonderful because we're universally trained healthcare professionals who know anatomy, facial anatomy especially,' she told FEMAIL.
'We are also aesthetically inclined and we love injections. We also have impeccable control standards and have a strong governing body meaning you know it's safe.'

Dr Kristina Cain has explained why dentists are now offering a variety of facial treatments, such as lip fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, on top of their typical mouth and teeth services

'We are health professionals so the responsibility is there which means many feel like they can trust us,' she said (pictured with a client)
Dr Cain has been trained in this area for eight years now and although at Smile Solutions in Melbourne she only offers veneers, at Refresh Dental Spa in Brisbane she offers a variety of treatments, including dermal fillers and muscle relaxants.
'We are health professionals so the responsibility is there which means many feel like they can trust us,' she said.
She explained that the reason an increasing amount of dentists have an interest in this area is because they spend their days staring at people's faces and notice every detail.
Dr Cain added that they often have an interest in aesthetics and want to make their customers feel better about themselves.

The added benefit of dentists offering these services is it encourages patients to be up to date with their oral health.
'There is a lot of motivation for some people to get Botox and then they may think "look I might also get a quick check-up and clean and see if there's anything else going on",' she said.

Dr Cain will smooth fine lines and wrinkles anywhere on the face
'People love the discretion of it, they can just tell people that they're going to the dentist and we send out reminders like we do for regular check-ups.'
Dr Cain will smooth fine lines and wrinkles anywhere on the face - particularly the frown and crow's feet.
Her favourite procedure are lip injections but she can also increase volume in, or restructure, certain parts of the face if the customer wants it.
'I'm very mindful of going over the top, I don't like going too far and see it as more of a freshen up,' she said.
'Some ladies in their mid-40s tell me gravity is kicking in so we treat marionette lines that run down the side of the cheeks and the lips too.
'No matter what we do though, we make sure to focus on skin health and the customer's general health and make people look at their habits.'
All of this being said, Dr Cain said this doesn't mean dentists aren't a one stop shop and they like to work with other professionals.
