LUCKNOW: In another revelation in the Krishnanagar double murder and dacoity, police have learnt that RK Gupta, the owner of RK Jewellers, had resisted the dacoits by throwing a card swipe machine at them. The dacoits hit back by firing three shots at Gupta which left him critically injured.

However, even after four days, police have not been able to crack the case.

SHO Krishnanagar Sunil Singh said that two employees were present in the showroom at the time of dacoity. “One employee had told us that Gupta was shot when he tried to call the police. But another employee Ritesh told us that Gupta threw a card swipe machine at a dacoit. Thereafter, the dacoits shot at him. After the first bullet hit him, Gupta pleaded with the dacoits to spare him and take away jewellery but they fired two more shots,” SHO said. “We had recovered the card swipe machine in the showroom,” he added.

Police have quizzed 20 persons so far. Police are probing the enmity angle after it emerged that RK Gupta was pursuing the case against jailed gangster Avnish Tripathi, who is accused in the kidnapping and murder of Gupta’s nephew Shyam.

On Tuesday, cops had grilled Tripathi in Lucknow jail. Armed dacoits had shot dead two persons and injured two others, including RK Gupta, when they attacked Gupta’s showroom on Saturday night.
