LUDHIANA: The police and MC officials came at loggerheads over the issue of dumping of garbage near division number 7 police station on Wednesday. The police also stopped two MC vehicles from dumping garbage near the police station that was causing problem to them. The MC seems to be at sea as far as controlling the garbage mess in the city is concerned.
Later, the police officials also talked to zonal commissioner Jasdev Sekhon over phone for not dumping the garbage at this location. The cops claimed that due to foul smell coming from the garbage it was getting difficult to sit in the police station.

However, MC officials showed helplessness while saying that it was the designated garbage dump and they were throwing it after collecting it from various localities and then A2Z Waste Management Limited was clearing it from there and dumping it at the main garbage dump on Tajpur road. Followed by the request of the zonal commissioner, the vehicles were allowed to move from there but the civic officials will have to find out a permanent solution to the problem.

Recently, MC commissioner K P Brar after conducting a meeting with the company representatives had asked them to improve their working or the MC would start imposing penalty on them. If after three penalties the company will not improve their working, then the MC will write to the state government for cancellation of the contract.

However, on Wednesday the MC officials have been directed to keep a check on garbage lifting by the company from the dumps. Once the company vehicle will clear the garbage from any dump the officials concerned will go and click the picture of that dump in half an hour. If the dump will not be found clean, then the MC will impose penalty on the company.

The zonal commissioner said that, “In the morning, two of our vehicles were stopped from dumping garbage near division number 7 police station and cops called me up as well. But even we are helpless as it is a designated dump site.” He said that they had asked the sanitary inspectors concerned to keep a check on the dumping sites and lifting of garbage from there. He also claimed that sanitary inspectors had taken the time-table of garbage lifting from the company and now they will convince the garbage collectors to throw garbage collected from households before the time of lifting so that dumps remain clean.
