Accuses BJP of using air strikes to divert attention from its failures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to use tension with Pakistan to his advantage after his failure to showcase any major achievements in the last five years, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said here on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference after the extended meeting of the Pradesh Congress Committee, the Chief Minister said the Prime Minister was diverting attention to tension with Pakistan to cover up the failures of the Centre.

“The BJP was not happy with release of Wing Commander Abhinandan. Pakistan’s decision to release the fighter pilot has eased the tensions,” he said.

All India Congress Committee Puducherry in-charge Sanjay Dutt alleged that the nationalism projected by the BJP was “fake”.

The Congress would certainly highlight the failures of Centre as well as the “conspiracy hatched by Mr. Modi, All India N.R. Congress chief N. Rangasamy and Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi” to destabilise the Congress government during campaign for Lok Sabha elections.

Both Mr. Narayanasamy and Mr. Dutt did not give a direct answer to questions on the party candidate for Lok Sabha seat here.

Scotches rumours

The Chief Minister said the candidate would be announced after the Election Commission announced the dates.

To a question on his name doing the rounds, the Chief Minister said: “These things are not said by public but not by party workers.”

Minister for Public Works and chief of Pradesh Congress Committee A. Namassivayam said the PCC meeting had passed a resolution declaring that they would work for the victory of the candidate decided by the party high command.
