The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has registered a complaint with the Delhi police regarding circulation of fake news on social media about paper leak, said a police officer on Wednesday.
In the complaint letter, the CBSE mentioned that in order to conduct examinations in a smooth manner, the Board has taken several security initiatives. A few cases of fake and false news, with the intention to thwart the efforts of the Board and to create panic and confusion among the students and public, are being noticed. The Board said such news was circulated by miscreants for personal and professional gain.
The Board has released instructions to all students and parents to be aware of fake news regarding paper leak, availability of question papers prior to the exam on various platforms, including social media.
The Board has located a number of uploads available on YouTube falsely claiming to have access to the original question papers of subjects in which examinations are yet to be conducted such as accountancy, chemistry, geography for Class XII and English, mathematics and Science for Class X. The papers on these sites have been scrutinised and have been found to be 100% fake, the Board said.
“We are acting on the complaint received at Madhu Vihar police station to take action against persons for uploading fake videos on the Internet about question paper leak which are spreading panic among students,” DCP (East) Jasmeet Singh said.
“We are going through the complaint, an FIR will be registered under relevant sections of IPC,” he said.
Request to stay calm
The CBSE has requested the public to remain calm in all situations. The public is expected to cooperate with the Board in dealing with such unsolicited situations.
The CBSE Class X and XII Board examinations are currently under way. Beginning February 15, the CBSE has so far conducted examinations in 136 subjects.
