Former Indian captain MS Dhoni‘s is one of most famous cricketers at present, without any doubt. In cricket, there have been number of instances when fans have broken security cordon to reach their favourite cricketers. Such an incident happened during India’s 2nd ODI against Australia when an MSD fan ran (pitch invader) behind him when the latter came to field. This incident, or say security lapse, has left veteran cricketers worried.
Former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Matthew Hayden, who watched the entire incident from the ground, engaged in a verbal dual. When Hayden asked Gavaskar about the security when the fan broke to reach Dhoni, the former star player gave a funny reply saying, “They are watching the match and therefore were not able to stop these invasions. In Australia, South Africa, and England, the security guys are sitting with their back towards the game and watching the crowd.”
Well, although the two made it look funny but it is happening almost every time during India’s home matches. Earlier, during Gautam Gambhir’s final match (Ranji Trophy), a fan, despite security, reached the pitch to click a selfie with the cricketer during a live match. One such incident also happened with skipper Virat Kohli during India’s match against West Indies last year.
Meanwhile, the incident has left former cricketer Aakash Chopra worried. Chopra, on Twitter, questioned the serious lapse in security. He wrote, “Serious lapse in security. How was he not even chased by the guards??? Happening too often.”
