Corpn school kids to learn vedic mathematics
TNN | Mar 7, 2019, 04:12 ISTCoimbatore: The city corporation is planning to teach vedic mathematics to the corporation elementary school students from the next academic year to equip them to face competitive examinations from a young age.
“Vedic mathematics is one of the ancient techniques followed to solve problems quickly. As the calculations are made in mind, it would be useful for the students to solve problems quickly, which is important for clearing competitive examinations,” corporation commissioner Sravan Kumar Jatavath said.
“Some students from corporation schools were taught abacus for nearly five years. They have completed about five levels so far. Vedic mathematics will be taught in addition to the academics just like abacus,” a corporation official said. “The students will be taught to do calculations in mind, without using pen or paper. The problems will get tougher as the course progresses. We had sought the help of experts to train teachers in corporation schools.”
A maths teachers from a corporation school said that the technique will be extremely helpful for the students, whose parents are illiterate.
