Bhopal: No probe yet, Congress fails to keep promise

BHOPAL: It appears that the Congress government, too busy in governance, has forgotten to direct inquiry into cases which smell of corruption and underhand deals. One such case is probe into recruitment conducted by MPPSC for the administrative posts. As many as 18 candidates of Jain community had managed to clear the recruitment tests in one go and were later given appointment. Congress, which was in opposition then, had vociferously raised the issue alleging that gross irregularities were committed in the recruitment.

The party had promised to institute probe into the ‘scam’ after coming to power in the state, however, no steps have been taken in this direction.

Congress media state vice president Bhupendra Gupta (who was appointed officer on special duty ( OSD) to Chief Minister Kamal Nath) had raised the issue stating that 18 candidates from the Jain community had qualified MPPSC recruitment exam in one go.

Ruling out any irregularity, MPPSC had informed that not 18 but 40 candidates of the Jain communities had cleared the test. It had further claimed that candidates had appeared in the exam from different centres and full transparency was maintained in the entire recruitment process.

However not buying their claim, Congress which was in opposition then had demanded high level inquiry into the entire ‘recruitment scam’. Congress had also assured of instituting an independent probe into the ‘scam’ if it formed the government in the state.

Pointing that there is huge scope of committing irregularities in recruitments conducted by MPPSC, sources said that the scores on which a candidate is judged in personal interview is much higher than other states thus giving it a long rope for wrongdoings. Here in MPPSC a candidate is scored out of total 175 marks in personal interview, while in neighbouring state like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar the candidates are judged on mark of 100. The candidates had demanded videography of the interview so that the transparency can be maintained.

Irregularities in Ayurved medical officer recruitment 2012 conducted by MPPSC had come to fore and the State government had instituted STF inquiry into it. The probe into the scam had brought to fore involvement of some of the corrupt officials posted in the Commission.

The state media vice president Bhupendra Gupta said all the issues and corruptions which Congress raised while being in opposition would not be investigated. The party in its ‘Vachan Patra’ has promised to constitute ‘Jan Ayog’ to conduct inquiries into cases where irregularities and anomalies were exposed and if need be they would be handed over to other investigation agencies, he added.
