Patiala: Kidnapped realtor freed after shootout

PATIALA: An 18-member team of the Patiala police managed to free a Zirakpur-based property dealer from his kidnappers following a shootout in Kalsi village of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday evening.

Patiala SSP MS Sidhu said Sampuran Singh, resident of Chamaru village under Ghanaur police station, was kidnapped from near Shambu toll barrier on Ambala-Jalandhar highway on February 28.

Cops zeroed in on two youths from Tepla village in Patiala, who had allegedly made ransom calls of Rs 1 crore to the family.

3 kidnappers arrested, 1 on the run

On Tuesday morning, the police team picked up the two persons, Shubhash and Bunty, from Tepla and they admitted to their involvement in the kidnapping of Sampuran Singh.


They informed the cops that four of their accomplices were keeping him at a sugarcane field in Kalsi village in Saharanpur.


A team led by SP (investigations) Harmeet Singh Hundal along with Shaminder Singh, incharge of crime investigating agency, Patiala, went to Kalsi, where they took a team of local police along and raided the field.


Sidhu said on seeing the cops, the kidnappers opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate. One of the accused identified as Bhana was injured, while other two Nadeem and Irshad were arrested. One of their accomplices, Mustaqeen, managed to flee.
