Teenage dirtbike rider dies in north Queensland crash
A teenage motorcycle rider has died after a collision with a ute in north Queensland.
Jacob McGimpsey, 16, was riding a dirtbike that crashed with a ute on a street corner in one of Townsville's outer suburbs about 4.20pm on Tuesday.
Strangers who saw the crash rushed to the teenager's side and performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
He was rushed to Townsville Base Hospital in a critical condition, where he died.
The driver of the utility, a 60-year-old man, was not physically injured but was transported to hospital for observation.
Jacob's school friend Riley Johnstone said the pair would go camping and fishing together almost every weekend, and loved to fix up bikes and cars in their spare time.
"Jacob would never do anything to hurt anyone he would always be there for me," he said.
"He was like a brother to me, thanks Jacob for everything he has showed me."
The fatal accident happened a week after the community was rocked by the deaths of two children who were found dead in the Ross River.
