GHAZIABAD: The husband of a municipal councillor in Ghaziabad’s Loni area was shot in the leg allegedly by his neighbours at an under-construction site in Laxmi Garden area on Tuesday. Police suspect the shootout took place over a property dispute.
Two men allegedly fired at Nitin Sharma (32) while he was having lunch on the first floor of his under-construction house. According to Nitin, the husband of Bharti Sharma, councillor of Ward 9 in Loni area, the shootout took place around 2.30 pm, police said.
The two alleged attackers, Gaurav and Kittu, both from the same area, had an argument with Nitin. During a heated exchange, Gaurav took out a country-made pistol and fired at Nitin. Both the accused then fled the spot and Nitin raised the alarm.
“The victim knows both the accused and they were seen with him at parties and other places several times,” a source said.
Police said they are yet to receive a written complaint in the matter.
“Following the shootout, Nitin was taken to the GTB Hospital in Delhi. His condition is said to be stable now. Prima facie, it appears that the shootout was the fallout of a property dispute. However, we are waiting for a written complaint from the victim’s family,” said Shailender Pratap Singh, the SHO of Loni Border police station.
