Mumbai: Man gets 10 years for raping 15-year-old kin

Representative imageMUMBAI: A special POCSO court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping his 15-year-old distant relative. The family of the survivor, now 19 years old, got to know of the sexual assault after she became pregnant in 2014. She delivered a baby and gave him up for adoption.
The accused, the brother-in-law of the survivor's maternal uncle, is married and has four children. At the time of her deposition in 2017, the girl was married and was pregnant. She said that that the accused resided in her neighbourhood. The survivor said that when she was in class X, the accused used to call her to his house and rape her. She said the accused also gave her money and threatened her against complaining to anyone.
The survivor said that in 2014, she was unwell and the doctor advised a sonography, when it was found she was seven months pregnant. In October 2014, an FIR was lodged.
