Pimpri: Rebel corporator Sheetal alias Vijay Shinde has urged the ruling party BJP to reconsider its candidate for the post of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Standing Committee chief.

Two-term corporator Shinde has filed his candidature against the ruling party’s official candidate for election to the Standing Committee chairman’s post.

The BJP has fielded Vilas Madigeri for the Standing Committee Chairman’s post. This is the first time that Madigeri has been elected to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

Both Madigeri and Shinde are BJP loyalists.

Incidentally, Shinde’s candidature for the post of the Standing Committee chief has been proposed and seconded by the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) corporators. Shinde had also quit the Standing Committee membership last year when he was not given the post.

The Standing Committee chairman is elected by members of this body. The Standing Committee has altogether 16 members. Ten are from BJP, four from NCP, one from Shiv Sena and one independent.

The BJP member’s election to the coveted post was certain but a group, led by Bhosari’s independent MLA Mahesh Landge, is also unhappy for denying the post to it.

There are three Landge’s supporters in the Standing Committee.

The election to the Standing Committee chief’s post will be held on Thursday (March 7).

The unity of the NCP, Shiv Sena and BJP’s disgruntled members can tilt the balance in the Standing Committee poll.
