FALL RIVER – Flame, a new sandwich shop at the former location of China Star, has officially opened on Rhode Island Avenue.

Described by its owners as a primarily take-out restaurant, Flame opened on Friday after being unanimously granted a common victualler’s license by the city last month.

During that meeting, owner Joanne Lucas said the space would offer a small dining room with about eight tables that would be capable of seating roughly 16 people. She also said the restaurant will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

“(We’ll serve) sandwiches, some hot food. There will be a steam table there. Rice, pasta, ribs. It’s all going to be to take out,” said Lucas.

The space had been occupied by the Chinese restaurant China Star until that business moved to a new location at 101 President Ave. Flame is located in the Southway Plaza at 390 Rhode Island Ave.
