MUMBAI: Poor printing in one of the questions in HSC’s book keeping and accountancy paper may cost 10 marks to students. A digit in the cost of the furniture in a question on the balance sheet of a firm was unclear in the question papers at many centres.
While at some centres, the amount of Rs 76,000 was visible, at many others, the digit ‘7’ was unclear. Supervisors at some centres clarified the doubt, but at most centres students have either calculated the answer using the cost of furniture as Rs 6,000 or Rs 16,000. Using the balance sheet of the firm, the students were asked to prepare the profit and loss adjustment account, partners’ capital accounts and new balance sheet of the firm. A student who gave the exam from MCC College in Mulund, claimed that no rectification was made to the question. “My son wrote in the paper that the figure is unclear,” said the mother.
Sachin Karnavat, president of Maharashtra Class Owners’ Association, said that at some centres the error was rectified late and many centres, it remained unrectified. “The balance sheet of students did not tally, and they wasted lot of time on the question. The board should give full 10 marks to students if their steps are right, but they have calculated using Rs 6,000 or Rs 16,00 as the cost of the furniture. It will be unfair to students who did not get clear print,” said Karnavat.
A board official said that they will seek opinion from the subject expert and take a decision, once they receive the plaint from students.
