Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam on Tuesday reiterated the charge of foul play in the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, alleging that she was given sweets by those around her despite her known diabetic status.
Addressing a meeting of party workers in Kallakurichi in the district, he sought to know if Jayalalithaa had indeed died of cardiac arrest. “How could one explain the blood stains on the verandah of the hospital,” he asked.
He alleged that despite knowing she was a diabetic, the former Chief Minister was given ‘halwa’ to worsen her health condition and reiterated his demand for a thorough probe into her death.
Though Ms. Jayalalithaa had power and resources at her command, he had information from “a person in high position that she was tormented” in the final phase of her life.
Veiled attack
In a veiled attack on AMMK leader T.T.V Dhinakaran and former AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala, Mr. Shanmugam alleged that those who had aggravated the deterioration of her health during her hospitalisation had been making baseless allegations.
The support of the rank and file of the party was so deep that no one could weaken the organisation, he said. In spite of her poor health, the former Chief Minister had campaigned throughout the State and made several persons MLAs of the party. Even those who are not eligible to become lawmakers had been installed in office by the late leader. But it is really sad to hear that such persons were now stating that they would destroy the AIADMK, he said.
“I make it clear that no one would be able to destabilise the party and those who had made such statements against the party were already behind bars. Those who indulged in anti-AIADMK campaigning would also go to jail as the soul of Jayalalithaa would not pardon such traitors,” he said.
