Students happy with Tamil paper; State Board Class XI exam from today

A majority of the Class X students from the CBSE stream began their board examinations on Tuesday.

Examination centres were asked to distribute question papers at 10.15 a.m. and most schools had asked students to assemble by 9 a.m. Students took the Tamil paper and the general feeling was that it was easy. Class XII CBSE students took the Physics paper, which some said was lengthy. Plus Two students wrote their English exams today. On Wednesday, nearly 8.21 lakh students and private candidates from Chennai and Puducherry will appear for the Plus One board examinations. These students will take the language paper in the new curriculum which was introduced in the 2018-19 academic year.

Made compulsory

The School Education Department had introduced compulsory board examinations for Class XI last year. Nearly 84,332 students of Class XI who could not clear the board exams last year will re-take the exam in the old curriculum this year and the examination schedule has been prepared in such a manner so as to not clash with the ongoing Plus Two exams, which they will be taking as well. There will be 78 prisoners sitting for the Plus One board exams. Children with special needs, numbering 2,700, will also be writing the exams.

The Directorate of Government Examinations has set up a control room to help students, teachers and parents. The control room can be reached at 93854 94105 or 93854 94115.
