Israeli national, 11 locals booked over Anjuna brawl

MAPUSA: The Anjuna police have booked an Israeli national for an attempt to murder and 11 locals for forming an unlawful assembly, assault and outrage of modesty.

According to police, a fight was reported on Tuesday between David Driham alias Dudu, a notorious Israeli national, and water sports operators over an issue of damage to a jet ski following which a complaint and counter complaint were registered.

Police said that the fight started after Dudu ventured into a rocky area in the sea despite a water sports operator asking him not to go there. This resulted in an argument leading to a fight between Dudu and two staff members, Sameer Khan and Arif Khan, of the water sports operator.

Currently, Arif is undergoing treatment for his stab injuries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) at Bambolim, while Dudu is being treated at the District Hospital in Mapusa, police said.

In this connection, a complaint has been filed by one Mahesh Gadekar (40), water sports operator and a resident of Anjuna.

According to his complaint, on March 5 around 8 pm, Dudu assaulted his staff Sameer with a wooden danda and made an attempt to kill another staff Arif with a knife causing him stab injuries. Both the injured are natives of West Bengal and residing in Anjuna.

In this connection, an offence has been registered by the Anjuna police under Sections 307, 324 of the Indian penal code against Dudu.

A counter complaint has been lodged in connection with the incident by Dudu, who is currently residing in a lodge in Anjuna. According to his complaint, on March 5, around 8.30 pm, Mahesh, along with ten unknown persons, allegedly formed an unlawful assembly, abused and assaulted him with an iron rod, a metal pipe and a wooden danda.

According to police, Dudu’s complaint also states that the alleged accused allegedly outraged the modestly of his wife and threatened to kill both of them. In this connection, an offence under Section 143, 147, 148, 324, 354, 506 (ii) read with 149 of the Indian penal code has been registered against Mahesh and ten other unknown persons.

Anjuna police is further investigating into the case.
